Interlock® Shake is an interlocking aluminum roofing system in which each shake is roll-formed from 0.028"-gauge aluminum and finished with the Alunar® Coating System for a durable, low-gloss surface. The panels measure 47" wide with 12 1/2" of each course exposed to weather and use a 3-panel overlap with an anti-capillary detail to keep water out. A complete range of color-matched trims — starter, gable, valley, sidewall, endwall, ridge cap and J-channel — completes the system.
The minimum slope is 3:12 when installed with an Ice & Water shield underlayment, or 4:12 minimum with standard underlayment. The entire roof area must be covered with synthetic roofing underlayment before the shake panels are applied, over sheathing that is 1/2" minimum or closely fitting boards. These requirements, with the matched flashing details, maintain the weather-tight performance of the assembly.
Interlock roofing weighs less than 7% of the average weight of a concrete-tile roof and less than 30% of the average weight of asphalt roofing materials. Because of this low dead load, no special structural preparation is typically needed, which reduces structural cost. Architects, builders and contractors remain responsible for confirming compliance with all applicable building codes and bylaws.
The manual lists ICC Evaluation Report 1790, Florida Report FL7263, Texas Department of Insurance hail-impact recognition, and UL 2218 Class IV (Class 4) impact resistance. These third-party reports document fire, wind and impact performance for permitting and specification, and each is available as a separate download in this library.
Interlock Shake carries a Lifetime Limited Warranty that is non-prorated and one-time transferable. Combined with the Alunar® finish — which protects the roof for a lifetime — this makes the system low-maintenance and a documented resale advantage. The Color Guide shows a designer palette including Copper Penny, Hunter Green, Solid Copper, Deep Charcoal, Musket Grey, Black, Colonial Brown, Tudor Brown and Tile Red, all in a low-gloss Alunar® finish. 1 Shake Panel Detail Interlock® Shake Interlock Shake is an interlocking aluminum roofing system. Each shake is coated with the Alunar® Coating System which provides an extremely durable and attractive surface. A complete range of color-matching trims are provided. Trusses Cost reductions can be effected in specifying Interlock roof shake, as the weight factor is considerably less than a conventional roof. Underlayment The entire roof area should be covered (prior to shake application) with synthetic roofing underlayment. Sheathing Sheathing for the roof should be 1/2" minimum or closely fitting boards.
